What are the symptoms of Acid Reflux?

The most common symptoms of Acid Reflux are heartburn, regurgitation and nausea. Heartburn is usually felt as a sharp burning pain in the middle of your chest. It can be felt high in the abdomen, just behind your breastbone, going up to the neck, or in some cases even going up to the back. It is very similar to heart pain (angina) leading many patients to get confused. But a heartburn usually occurs after eating a very meal or if one lies down immediately after a heavy meal.

Regurgitation happens when the acid and other contents of the stomach flow into the food pipe or the mouth. Apart from the acid, sometimes enzymes and even bile juice can enter the food pipe and you can get a bitter, sour, or burning taste in your throat. In some severe cases there may even be vomiting or nausea and the patient may experience some difficulty in swallowing or hoarseness in vocal cords.

In extreme cases of Acid Reflux, the acid can travel into the lungs causing wheezing or coughing. If the regurgitated acid reaches the mouth it can even dissolve the enamel of the teeth.
